When is the pageant being held?
The Miss Hollywood USA 2009 Pageant and the Miss Hollywood Teen Pageant will be held on Sunday, March 9th, 2008 in the Grand Ballroom of the beautiful new Hollywood Beach Marriott, 2501 North Ocean Drive in Hollywood. All delegates must be in attendance from 9 a.m. – approximately 8 p.m.  In addition, a mandatory Pageant University and Photo Shoot will be held for all delegates February 24th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Hollywood Beach Marriott.

Who are the producers of the pageant?
The pageant is independently produced by the Greater Hollywood Jaycees and is headed up by Pageant Director, Debra Gronvold, and Co-Pageant Director Dave Adelson, and a fabulous committee of Jaycee members.  Please visit our Meet The Directors page on our website for a complete Bio. of our Pageant Directors.  In addition, this year’s pageant is generously supported once again by the Hollywood Beach Marriott and the Hollywood Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (Beach CRA).

What are the age requirements to compete?
For Miss Hollywood USA, you must be at least eighteen (18) and under twenty-seven by February 1, 2009.  To compete in Miss Hollywood Teen USA, you must be at least fourteen (14) years of age and under nineteen (19) years of age as of February 1, 2009.

I have never competed before in a pageant; do I need to have pageant experience?
Absolutely not!  In fact, most of our delegates are competing in pageants for the first time and many will compete again after their wonderful experience. Last year, one of our titleholders won in her very first USA pageant and our other titleholder won after competing several times.  At www.PageantReady.com University, everyone will learn helpful hints and tidbits to help you prepare and to help make your pageant experience a memorable one.

What are the areas of competition?  Do I need to perform a talent?
There are three categories in which each contestant will be judged:  Interview, Swimsuit, and Evening Gown.  Each category counts equally.  There will not be a talent competition. Throughout the USA pageant system, from the local level to the international level, delegates are judged in these three areas.

PERSONAL INTERVIEWS: You will meet the judges in a four-minute panel group interview.  You will be asked to prepare a 30-60 second introduction of yourself before the judges’ questions begin. The judges will try to get an idea of who you are as an individual. They will seek a young woman capable of expressing herself clearly, intelligently and confidently. This is your opportunity to impress the judges with your opinions, ability to communicate and overall sense of self. They are not looking for rehearsed answers. Questions will come primarily from the information you provided us in your Official Entry Form, but be prepared for anything.  Each judge will have the opportunity to ask you a question, if they choose.  The panel interview will last no more than four minutes.  You will be asked to wear your opening number outfit. (Please see below.)
SWIMSUIT COMPETITION:  Miss & Teen delegates may wear a one-piece or two-piece solid color swimsuit of your choice. (No thongs, Brazilian cut, must be in good taste, any questions, just ask).  Judges are asked to focus on overall fitness and poise with which you carry yourself. Physical measurements are not considered. Confidence is key to this area of competition.  Taupe/Skin Tone or clear heels are suggested.
EVENING GOWN COMPETITION: Judges focus on poise, overall appearance, and sense of fashion and style. No single detail of the gown, hair or make-up should garner attention. The overall effect should be a reflection of your personal style.  The only requirement is that the dress be full length.  This area of competition is an audience favorite.  Remember, style does not have a price tag.  You do not need to spend a lot of money to have the gown that is perfect for you!

I have seen some pageants that have a dance number, what if I do not know how to dance?
You do not need to know how to dance to compete in this pageant. You will however, work with a choreographer during stage rehearsal to learn walking patterns and to practice walking up the stairs on stage in your heels and such.  During the Opening Number, you will also be asked to do a 15-30 second self introduction at the microphone which will include your name and delegate number.

Do I need special outfit for the Opening Number?
Yes, the colors for the opening number are pink with white as the only accent color.  You can wear any combination of a pink shade and white.  Only pants, skirts, dresses or capris will be allowed (shorts are not permitted). You can accessorize and show your sense of style.  You will be wearing your opening outfit during the panel interview so you don’t have to worry about purchasing a business outfit.   If you have added accessories during the opening number, you may choose not to wear them during the interview process i.e. sunglasses, hat, etc.  You will not be judged in the Opening Number.

If I win, what prizes am I entitled to?
There is a large list of fabulous prizes which are all listed under the prizes section of our website.  The winner of both the Miss and Miss Teen categories will win a variety of wonderful prizes, an educational cash scholarship, professional photography session, fabulous fashions, a personalized resume package, personal training sessions, teeth whitening, dry cleaning, a gift certificate to La Casa Hermosa and of course, a sash and crown, among other incredible prizes donated by local Hollywood businesses.  Miss Hollywood will receive their entrance fee paid to the Miss Florida USA state competition, scheduled July 8th-12th, 2008. Miss Teen Hollywood USA will receive their entrance fee paid to the Miss Florida Teen Pageant, scheduled for October 4th –5th, 2008. More prizes are being added weekly!

If I am crowned Miss Hollywood USA or Miss Hollywood Teen, will I be making appearances throughout Hollywood?
Absolutely yes!  Our titleholders have the opportunity to appear at numerous charity and civic fundraisers and events.  There are many opportunities to help make a difference in our community and the Greater Hollywood Jaycees, the producers of the pageant, help make that happen.  Past events and appearances have included the Downtown Hollywood Mardi Gras Parade, the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, the Montella Park Marshmallow Drop, Diamonds in the Rough Golf Tournament, Lincoln Manor Special Needs Home BBQ and many, many more!  In addition, each titleholder will be asked to focus on a particular cause that is near and dear to her heart and develop ways to make a difference for that cause or charity.

Besides the overall winners, are there any other titles that are awarded?
YES!  In addition to the Miss and Miss Teen titles, the delegates will be competing for the titles of Miss Congeniality, which is voted on by fellow delegates; Miss Hospitality, which is based on ticket and ad sales; Miss Photogenic, which is determined by our Official Miss Hollywood USA Pageant Photographer, John LaMarche; and the People’s Choice Award, which is voted on by the audience members.  In addition, to runners-up in both Miss and Teen, the winners of the Pageant will be eligible to compete in the state competition as an at-large delegate, at their own expense.
